Getting Around Martinique
Martinique is a small island and
getting around should not be a
problem. Be prepared to use
French to direct taxi drivers
and to read bus schedules.
ò Taxis can be found mostly at
the airport in Fort-de-France
and at major hotels
ò Taxi fares are set by the
government, but there is a
40% surcharge for night trips
ò Buses are popular, inexpensive
and usually run on regular
schedules
ò Hotels can arrange for tour
buses
ò Rental cars are available with
many national agencies
represented
ò You must be 21 and have a
valid drivers license to rent
a car
ò Driving is on the RIGHT
ò Strict seat belt, speed and
drunk driving laws are
enforced
ò The island is connected by air
to most of the surrounding
islands in the French Antilles
ò Power catamarans link the
island with nearby Guadeloupe
and Dominica
ò Charter boats are available
for day trips or longer
